The Summer Foundation Struggle is Real
If your foundation is vanishing faster than your motivation on Friday afternoon, this one’s for you…
You’re not imagining it—your foundation really is disappearing by lunchtime.
So, it’s summer and your foundation is separating, fading and disappearing. And I know its really annoying- I hate it too! But, it might not be your fault.
One of the reasons that your makeup might not be lasting all day long is because your skin can actually produce more oil during the summer.
Plot Twist- Your Skin Changes During the Summer
Here’s what’s really happening with your skin:

I’ve had so many clients tell me, “But I don’t have oily skin!” Girl, you do in July.
Plus- it’s also really hot out there, so we’re sweating a lot more. And all of the oil and all of the sweat literally breaks down the structure of your foundation and it sabotages your look.
So, what can you do about it?
The Game-Changing Fix
One of the things you need to do is this- adjust both your skin care and your makeup choices during the summer.
After all- you already probably have a different foundation color that you wear in the summer than the rest of the year. So if you’re not also using products that are more oil absorbing during these summer months, then you’re not really giving your makeup a fighting chance.
You need to be adjusting both your skincare AND your makeup choices if you want to help your makeup last all day.
Because often, it’s just these little tweaks to your routine that can have a big impact on how your makeup performs.
What This Actually Looks Like
Action step today- take a look at both your skin care and your makeup products. Look at the ingredients and see what you might need to swap out during the summer, even if your skin isn’t usually oily the rest of the year.
That could mean using a lighterweight textured moisturizer or trying out sebum-controlling skincare or makeup products.
You might want to try products that are labeled “mattifying,” “oil-control,” “long-wearing”.

The Professional Reality Check
Over the 20+ years doing makeup, I’ve learned that people’s skin type really can change- not just during the summer months, but over time as well.
The important thing to do is to take inventory of what your skin is doing right now, and treat it accordingly.
By working with your current skin sitch, you help keep your makeup clinging to your face, rather than sliding off.
