How to Make Your Makeup Last All Day — Without a Touch-Up

Girl, let’s talk about why your makeup keeps disappearing on you…

You know that feeling when you spend 20 minutes perfecting your makeup, only to catch yourself in a mirror at lunch looking like you barely tried? Yeah, I’ve been there too. But here’s the thing—it’s not your fault!

This is Why Your Makeup Doesn’t Last

Your makeup is melting because you’re choosing the wrong products!

The number one reason that your makeup fades, disappears, and doesn’t last you all day- especially in the summer- is this: it’s not actually designed to.

Most traditionally formulated makeup (pretty much everything you’re used to) is not designed with longwear in mind.

Most Makeup is NOT Long-Wearing for a Reason

Think about it this way- from a business point of view- they create a product but they don’t really care how many hours it lasts you.

Cosmetic companies have historically made more money when your makeup wore off quickly.

If your makeup fades, then you just have to reapply more makeup, and then you end up using your products quicker- and you have to turn around and buy more of them. See the pattern here?

It’s genius (and slightly evil).

It’s only recently that longwearing makeup became a thing because of consumer demand. This is good news!

Because customers have finally pushed brands to create truly long-wearing formulas, we don’t have to use makeup that disappears anymore!

Now, we have more options and we don’t have to settle for makeup that breaks down and evaporates.

My #1 Rule For All Day Makeup

The most important thing that you need to know about helping your makeup last longer during the summertime is this-

Only purchase products that are marketed as being longwearing.

What I tell my clients is this: look at the packaging and the advertising. If it doesn’t say “24-hour,” “all-day,” or “long-wearing” somewhere on that bottle, don’t buy it.

If you don’t follow this rule- and just buy regular makeup off the shelf, then it’s just kind of like going on a blind date. You don’t know what you’re going to get!

The Longwearing Products That Actually Matter

You don’t need to replace your entire makeup collection, but these five categories will make the biggest difference:

  1. Foundation- lots of options out there now
  2. Eyeshadow Base- this is crucial for locking it in
  3. Eyeliners- why even use regular ones anymore?
  4. Mascara- key for weddings and watersports
  5. Setting Spray- the crucial step for locking it all in.

My Professional Take

I’ve been doing makeup for over 20+ years now. I know that the difference between makeup that lasts 4 hours and makeup that lasts 12 hours isn’t talent—it’s technique and product choice.

Most traditional makeup formulas weren’t designed with longevity in mind. But now we have options. We can choose products that work with our lifestyle instead of against it.
