The Setting Powder Mistake That's Ruining Your Makeup
If your makeup separate and fades away by mid-afternoon, then this common makeup mistake could be to blame: your choice of powder. The truth is- if you aren’t using the right kind of powder, your makeup simply won’t last all day long.
I’m going to explain why a true setting powder is what you need to help your makeup look fresher and last longer.
Why Your Makeup Doesn't Last All Day
If you don’t set your makeup with powder, it basically sits on top of your your face all day long with nothing to hold it together.
The natural oils coming from your skin will break down your foundation, causing it to separate.
Your makeup is also more likely to be vulnerable to smudge, fade, and disappear with every move you make.

But, as wise women know, not just any powder- or prince either, will do.
Not all Powders are Created Equal
There’s actually a difference among makeup powders- setting powders, mineral powders, finishing powders etc.
They are all created with different ingredients and used for different purposes.
But only a true setting powder will bind your makeup to your skin and “set” it so that it lasts.
Finishing powders are designed more to blur lines, and are used as the last “finishing” step.
Mineral powders have a lovely texture because they are so natural looking and lightweight, but aren’t really built for t-zones or longevity in mind.
The Purpose of a Setting Powder
Setting powders are designed to lock in your foundation and are more durable than other powder types.
They often have extra oil absorbing ingredients to help keep your makeup stay dry and fresh throughout the day.
As a professional makeup artist, my favorite setting powders are the RCMA No Color Powder and the Laura Mercier Loose Powder.
Your Action Plan for Longer Wearing Makeup
Take a look at your powder and check the labels, packaging, and marketing online.
